Community Safety Officers

Community Safety Officers

Select Security Group is the leading supplier of Community Safety Officers in Northern Ireland. Our teams work extensively throughout the province.

The goals of our Community Safety Officers are to;
• tackle Anti Social Behaviour including loitering, graffiti, littering and noise issues
• reduce Crime and the Fear of Crime
• engage and work with Young People
• make communities more inviting and promote Crime Prevention
• work with Community Groups to deal with local problems
• Signpost people to the relevant groups or agencies for specific problems
• Proactively engage with people, with Enforcement Action as a last resort

Partnership Approach
No matter the area or type of deployment, our Community Safety Officers work in partnership with stakeholders such as Local Authority, Community Safety Partnership, PSNI, Northern Ireland Housing Executive, Education and Library Boards and all Community Groups to achieve long term solutions to problems. This has proven particularly effective when young people are believed to be the root of problems such as loitering, underage drinking, graffiti etc.

Approachable and Visible Presence
Our vehicles and uniforms are very distinctive allowing residents and concerned persons to easily identify and approach us to talk about local problems. Each patrol team has a dedicated phone number provided to all residents with the same wardens patrolling the same area on a regular basis. This allows our Community Safety Officers to get to know local residents, allowing them to explain their role and offer a personal service.

Town Centres and Licensed Premises
Some of our Community Safety Officers are deployed to Town Centres and Licensed Premises. Our work in Town Centres focuses on providing a visible presence, such as during peak season times, to prevent anti social behaviour such as fly posting and graffiti whilst reassuring the public. We also work with owners of premises like nightclubs, whom we work with to help manage problems by marshalling taxi ranks or engaging with crowds to get them to move away from residential areas. This presence has also shown to lower crimes such as assaults as problems are identified and dealt with quickly prior to violence.
