What is it?
Offender ID is a new UK approved spray which marks offenders with a bright red dye, containing a unique DNA code. The product is approved by Secured by Design – a company of the UK Association of Chief Police Officers which endorses effective crime prevention products.

How does it work?
The device looks like a CS spray carried by Police officers. If a security officer sprays an offender it releases the dye and a unique DNA code onto the persons clothing and skin. This makes them highly visible to other security staff, police or CCTV operators enabling them to be easily spotted and arrested quickly. The dye and DNA can survive multiple washing and stay on the skin and clothing for several weeks.

Will it hurt the offender?
The spray is entirely harmless and does not involve any irritant. Offender ID is not an incapacitant spray like Police CS gas or PAVA.

How do the Police link the person to the crime?
If Police can swab the face and clothes of an offender they can obtain the unique DNA code. This is then checked against a national database of the DNA codes, linking the offender to the specific incident.

What does the training involve?
The course lasts three hours and covers several topics including; conflict resolution, legal limitations, how the spray works, evidential trail, uses of the spray and after effects.

Who is the course available to?
The course is available to anyone who works in the security industry including security officers, door supervisors, loss prevention officers, store detections, CCTV operators and cash in transit operatives.
